When you've got your sequence and have opened the AMA volumes I add the tape number to the Tape column by selecting all the clips i need and using the Modify>Set Source menu command. We rarely use this workflow as, like you, we prefer to work with our media on the ISIS or locally, although we've moved away from transcoding to DNx resolution and just online in the native XDCAM codec. As long as it's not Long GOP the Avids handle it fine and you save a shed load on storage space, which is essential when you're working with the huge volumes of footage we're getting nowadays and we don't do hardly any effects work so it holds up fine for our purposes. I would add this step at the front of the workflow too i.e. Mount AMA volume, modify source THEN transcode. saves you adding it in later or accidentally mislabelling clips after the fact. HTH.

So here's a quick question (I do work with AMA and XDCAM a lot and avoid these by transcoding early to DNX HD res (220 or 220X, but you can't always do that, and in the interest of being prepared...) when you say you add the same tape number to the AMA clips - where? To the volume folder? To each individual clip? Where are you adding the tape # so it will relink?
