And I'd agree with Mr Curren! AFAIK the current Media Composer does not have a hardware abstraction layer (HAL) as traditionally it only worked with Avid hardware. Without a HAL support for each piece of hardware is custom code.
Now if you were significantly reworking an application with an eye on the future, adding a HAL into a putative new version would seem to be a logical place to go.

But there is that. My bet would be MC 6 has a HAL and then support becomes easier for 3rd party hardware.
