[Avid-L2] Re: Lower End Reference Monitors

Thanks everyone for all of your comments. This has been very informative for me and I appreciate the input.

The JVC seems like it would suffice -- although obviously not optimum. At the same time, it's kind of hard to complain about a monitor at that price point.

Regarding OLED -- the shared concern regarding lifespan is not insignificant. Three years doesn't seem like a lot of time to amortize a piece of gear -- especially when there's always the risk that it might not even last THAT long.

Of bigger concern for me, however, is not wanting to become a "calibration monkey". Been there -- done that.

I could be mistaken, but I have not read anything about the PVM self- calibrating -- and Sony's (admittedly) scarce information on the topic does not seem to suggest any "built-in" provision that addresses that requirement.

This may very well be one of the features de-contented from the BVM line -- but I guess we'll have to wait to find out. However, if calibration is not built-in -- it would appear that this monitor might require a whole lot of hand-holding over it's projected 3 year life span. That wouldn't be a party I'd want to invite myself to.
