what else could they do? Not go 64 bit and be left behind? Avid needs to bank on selling a shit-ton of 64 bit upgrades (which most will bitch and moan about the cost) and associated Avid hardware. Like Apple not being a "computer company", Avid is not a "editing software company". It needs to diversify to survive in its current form.
