[Avid-L2] Can Avid Symphony or Media Composer Import 16 bit Tiff sequences?

I found a thread somewhat related but I'm told a fellow editor avid mc 4.0.5 can import 16 bit png and psd but not tiff.  He wants to import 16 bit tiff sequences for online the thread I found says you can import 16 bit tiff sequences but they will be 10 bit.  I assume this is because Avid Symphony/MC only works up to 10 bit.  Am I understanding this correctly?  Here is part of the thread I found:

I imported lots of Red footage from 16bit TIFF (approx 2.4x the size) and you have to be impressed with the difference!!!!
Lets hope Avid gets full and true 10bit suport!
What would also be great would be a 10bit codec that had a higher bitrate.
Why?? because if you do a difference matte between 10bit truncated to
8bit, true 8bit and uncompressed you will think 8bit is better..
Since most of the time Avid truncates this makes 8bit better (I first posted on this YEARS AGO).
I will start a new thread about the other quality issues after testing again (no time this week) in v3..
