Not sue why downconverts would be unacceptable- I assume that's on account of import/transcode time? Unless you're using adrenaline, in fact, even if you are, the easy solution is to upgrade to 5.5. You can mix and match formats and frame sizes on them timeline. There are some techniques, but it's mostly straight forward. The upgrade is cheap, assuming your computer is fast enough to run the new software. Seriously, with the new codecs, why would you use old software? The other choice would be to use a downconvert out of the camera, and make sure everything is in SD 30i going in. DigitalServiceStation.com can make those dubs for you- but, honestly, even at our low prices, upgrading your software is probably more cost effective.
