nice, few remarks:
1) doable, but the report, if you want it editable, should the changes in
the report also affect the actual media, or should it be a 'subclip'
(read, another database entry with different metadata?)

4) Undoable for me, unless Wes Plate is interested to join the club...
XML / EDL / ALE is easy, but an Avid project / bin is hard...
5) of course...
6) This is doable, but not always meaningfull. The amount of tracks does not
give you any info if they are actually filled or not.
Lots of formats have more audio tracks than are in use...

Ok, I've thought about what would be nice to have in this program for our
shop. Hopefully others would see something here that would work for them
too.
1. Within the software, create a folder on the archive drive. Then
tag/select folders on our EditShare to be archived to that project folder -
software copies folders from their original locations to the archive drive,
verifies the copy (with an option to delete original media upon
verification), scans and databases all files on the archive drive and
generates a report of every file in that project. Report should be editable
and searchable.
2. Ability to scan, database and generate an editable report for already
full drives - we could use this to search our shared storage for
files/projects, or to database drives that are already backed up. Being
able to dive into the report afterwards to add custom columns for air
dates/etc... would be helpful.
3. Ability to read an XML/EDL and copy files from location A (archive drive
perhaps) to location B (shared/local storage, perhaps). Very useful for Red
projects, or even to bring archived projects back online for quick
revisions.
4. Ability to read an Avid project or Avid bin to archive/scan/generate
report of all associated media - like MDV. I can only assume reading a FCP
project is out, hence the XML option.
5. Need to run in it on a Mac and PC (Windows 7 and Leopard, if possible).
6. When it scans the media files it would be ideal if the report contained
Reel Name (if available), timecode (if available), frame rate, tracks,
compression codec, and frame size. We'd need support for P2, XDCamHD, Red,
Alexa, Quicktime, AvidMXF, mpeg, and .avi.
A program that could do this would be great to have - is it possible? Would
it be of use to anyone else on the list? How much would something like this
cost? What am I overlooking?
