RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Script Sync backward compatibility

JEEEEZ.... So I have to keep one workstation on 5.0.3.8 until I stop being
pissed off! Like they say on Santa Monica Boulevard, "the first one is
always free."

If you move to 5.5, you will have to purchase ScriptSync. We renewed
our partnership with Nexidia for 5.0 and broke out ScriptSync as a
purchasable option. For customers on 5.0 we allowed the free use of the
software for that version until they moved to version 5.5.

Pardon the density of my cranium, but does this answer the question
about
whether or not the original script sync we received on the earlier
versions
(for no charge) will still be present for us on 5.5.1, without having to
pay
additional charge, or that we are out of luck on 5.5 unless we pay extra
this time for script sync? Is it necessary to keep an older version of
MC
around if we want to still have access to that feature?,

What I mean is if you have a script that was analyzed on an earlier
system
with script sync that script will still function on the 5.5.1 mcsoft.
Unlike
phrasefind, which according to a recent demo I saw, requires each system
to
index the media locally even if it is sharing a project over a san.
Legacy
"scripts" still work on the latest mcsoft. You are correct without the
option you cannot run script sync on 5.5.1 but if you have an older
system
you can run it there and use it on the new software.

ScriptSync (the actual speech analysis software that automatically sets
keyframes at the dialogue lines in the script) is the part of script
based
editing that is now optional.
