Not if you don't have internet. I just finished a convention gig where I had to install my own FCP copy in order to enable ProRes encode on the system. Just one of those wrinkles you don't know about until you are on-site.

I understand why. As Terry says, RED is a perfect example, since it's a never-completed, moving target, science experiment. My point isn't that there aren't workarounds, just that it's one more thing you have to worry about now.
