Re: [Avid-L2] Inquiry: Installing Media Composer on an FCP Turnkey System

Hi Jesse,

I don't have all of your answers, but here is what I do here.
I use two different start up disks. (dual booting)

I use a second hard drive. Yes, I could partition the original hard drive in to two - but I prefer the future flexibility of physically pulling out one drive to swap with another if something goes wrong with either one of the startup disks.

You will find that you ABSOLUTELY will have different OSX versions on the two hard drives. You'll follow one set of instructions to keep Avid up to date with it's requirements, and follow the upgrade recommendations for the FCP setup. Treat them like two different machines.

The Avid install happily ignores the AJA hardware (I'm using Kona LHe) - I don't install any drivers for it.

The FCP install happily ignores the Avid hardware (firewire attached only - have not installed on the DX machines) but is not happy about the Fiber Unity card. To get around that I install the Avid Media Network software on the FCP bootup drive. This keeps it from complaining about disks that need to be 'initialized' every few minutes.

Good luck!

Jeff
