For another perspective, here is an example of beneficial AMA use in long
form work:

I had a project with 9 hours of P2 source clips - all green screen
interviews. The client needed to review the material as soon as possible
after the shoots. Using AMA, I logged the clips and then cut them down
into 2 hour stringouts.

Through elimination of some weak takes, irrelevant material and other
miscellany, I got the total down to 6 hours (3 two hour stringouts). We
added Avid's real time time code window to the sequences and laid them off
to a DVD recorder for the client to review.

So we were able to get the DVDs out to the client in a timely manner
without any transcoding or rendering in a format they wanted (DVD w/window
burn).

After we got the DVDs out the door, then we transcoded the 6 hours of
stringouts to DNxHD at a more leisurely pace - i.e., when there was an idle
machine or on an overnight.

I had no problems throughout the process - it all worked flawlessly and all
in real time.
