Re: [Avid-L2] Red Rocket Question

How accelerated is it? Reading about it makes it seem like RT.

Depends on the system. Assimilate Scratch for example, along with RED's own REDCineX or RocketCineX, can use the card at its full potential: full 4K debayer in RT and output to 4K/2K/HD.

Less evolved systems like FCP, or Avid(MC/Sym/DS/Metafuze) have still a long way to go to fully support the card. They can currently use it only for some sort of accelerated transcoding.

Lately, we have been seeing more and more RED footage come through our facility. It got me thinking about the RED Rocket card. A couple of questions.

Can someone explain what the workflow is with this card. Is it for RT transcoding before an edit, or is it used in conjunction with an edit system to play back the R3D files in an edit?

With MC5 coming and DS currently able to edit R3D with Proxies, is the Red Rocket card still useful? Are performance enhancements to having the card with the MC5 or is it redundant?

TIA

KEN
