RE: [Avid-L2] Antivirus

Hi Nigel. I am running managed Endpoint 11 (MR5) on about 100 Avid
systems running from Win XP on XW8200 (4GB RAM) to Windows Vista 64 on
Z600 and I have autoprotect on all of them. I also run full scheduled
scans on them all at 04:00AM every day. These systems edit mostly from
ISIS, some are on local storage. All are also connected to our AD
domain. They edit a combo of HD and SD. I have had no apparent issues
stemming from Symantec per se. There are the usual memory issues with
some sequences running on 32 bit OS like XP but we have the same issues
when we remove Symantec entirely. The only thing I do is create a
centralized exception policy to ignore all .mxf, .omf and .wav files.

They are apparently going to fix the right-click to scan a folder in an
upcoming release. You can always scan a folder manually by opening the
client and creating a custom scan. It's more clunky but it does the
trick.

You can easily and quickly disable autoprotect on a client or group if
you run into problems. That's what I intended to do and then really
never had any problems. So it remains on.

Matt

Subject: [Avid-L2] Antivirus

HI there,

Currently the only approved antivirus seems to be Symantec endpoint, but
running with Autoprotect disabled. With Vista 64 the option has been
removed
that allows you to manually start a scan of say a USB stick, on XP32 if
you
right click on a folder there is a virus scan option. So if you run with
autoprotect off there is no easy way to do a virus scan on removable
media.
All the Symantec info really says that you need to be running with
Autoprotect on however that isn't Avid's recommendation

What are people doing about this?

Thanks

N
