Re: [Avid-L2] Re: 12-Bit Audio

12 bit = 32k or am I wrong? If capturing directly via Firewire, you'll
get prompted that the audio is 32k and MC will switch the Audio
Project settings to suit (or you can do this beforehand). Then do a
sample rate conversion.

I got my hands on the DP's XL-1 and recorded some video using the
setup described. As suspected, Media Composer won't capture the 12-bit
material (16-bit & 24-bit are the only options).

The good news is the XL-1 *will* record two seperate audio channels in
16-bit. For some reason though, Media Composer doesn't want to
digitize this material when played back in the Sony DSR-20. I'll have
to use the camera body to digitize.

Thanks.

Doesn't the XL-1 have analog outs? RCA into your Mojo, better then a
conversion, which I don't think will be an option...

Greetings, Listers.

On Friday I'll take delivery of MiniDV cassettes shot with a Canon
XL-1. The DP is working alone (without an audio tech), and be
recording with shotgun and lavalier mics. I'm told that in order to
record these channels discreetly, the camera must be set to record 12-
bit audio.

I'm going to use my MCsoft v3.5.9 and 1st-generation MOJO to ingest,
edit & output the material via a Sony DSR-20 deck (I know, this is an
old-school set-up). I'm out in the field presently, and can't remember
whether I can set 12-bit audio as an option in Media Composer. If I
can't, will MOJO transcode the audio to the project's format as it's
digitized? If not, can I simply transcode the audio to 16-bit after
digitizing?

I'm efforting to get my hands on an XL-1 to run my own tests. Any
advance feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks.
