they link to it.
I suggest for now a "show media relatives" followed by a quick wrap to
Avid MXF might fit the bill.
The media will still be long gop, i.e. fundamentally unchanged, and you
get the advantage of Avid media management from here on in.

Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] AMA Consolidate
Yup. You get my point. AMA has a few significant deadends and potholes
right now. it's not and end to end solution- yet.
On top of that, no detailed worflow roadmap has been published. Some
Avid documentation suggests you can use AMA clips exactly like any other
type of Avid media, but clearly you can't.
It's great that Avid can straddle native EX/XDCAM/P2 files and process
them in realtime, but presently you can't output those AMA links as
anything but AVID MXF wrapped media. Quicktime did not work either.
(If someone can test a consolidate with AMA P2 media, does it work?)
Of course, once you import/transcode the files to the Avid media
folders, everything becomes easy. But doing that kinda defeats the
beauty of AMA.
A fully enabled AMA "workflow" would include a way to output the
"original" AMA format you are editing. Or perhaps another "native"
format, when it's helpful. (DVCPRO HD for an Omneon server for
instance) The ability to write files to any folder location, (not just
an XDCAM Disc) would be a huge plus for building a CODEC native library
and exchanging material.
I'm already getting requests to do this, for collaborating, for
archiving and for playout. So it has me thinking. And there are more,
big CODECS coming in Avid's future. File exchange / conversion becomes
more important every day.
Go play with a 30 day trial Jimmy. AMA is nice - Native file exchange
would be nicer.
Simply put , if you ingest a native CODEC, and chew on it , you should
be able to poop it out as well.
