RE: [Avid-L2] Re: OT: Flip Video Cameras

We provided several of the cheapest version of the Flip to the local AAA
baseball stadium for use as "Fan Cams" Some of it has actually hit
broadcast.

I just tested out one of these today.

The producer shot a little 1:30 vid around the office then connected it to
his PC and copied the .mp4 file to a networked share. I then accessed the
network share and copied the file to my local hard drive on the Mac.

Then in Avid, I imported. Couldn't have been simpler and given the
low-light conditions in the office and edit suite, the footage actually
looked pretty decent. I tried various import codecs as well, just to see
what would look the best.

I first tried a 720p/29.97 project and brought it in DNx75. Then I flipped
to 30i and imported as DV25, cut a little into a sequence flipped to
1080i/59.94 and Batch Imported at 1:1 10b. I also tried AVC-Intra 100 and
XDCam 35Mbit. I could not see any noticeable differences at all except in
the DV25 of course, because it was down-converted to SD.
