Close :) It does run about 30% faster on tape but uses the exact same codec. The fast movement of the tape creates a different track angle.

The faster speed is (according to Sony's hype over DVCAM vs DV, not much of which was real) supposedly gave a higher drop-out resistance over standard DV tape speed. In reality, I think DV has almost no dropouts or catastrophic drop outs.
