Re: [Avid-L2] Interplay and moving projects in and out

I've done it. The short answer is, it works. The longer answer is that parts of the process can take some effort.

Taking the project from the system is the same with or without Interplay. It's usually safest to just copy the necessary bin files to a new project on the target system. The strategy for copying your media depends on how much and whether or not it's located in its own storage. Safest bet is to consolidate to a removable drive. Copying the AvidMediaFiles folders in the OS can work too. You may need to rename the individual MXF folders. Once your non Interplay system builds media media databases everything will link up.

Moving back to the Interplay system can be a bit more adventurous. Copying your bins into an existing project works. Assuming that the clips weren't modified, everything will relink. Bringing media from external drives is possible. The safest way is to let the Interplay system's indexer index the external drive, then consolidate. Dumping MXF files into an existing indexed MXF folder may annoy the Interplay media indexers. It might work but a truly pissed off Interplay media indexer isn't always a pretty thing.
