Re: [Avid-L2] Re:Dual DVI and USB extenders?

We moved from Gefen to Avocent as well.
I have to echo the previous comment re: working with Wacom tablets...

It's basically ANY usb device that is not a standard keyboard/mouse
that requires special configuration.

For example, one editor likes to use a Wacom tablet, another a
Kensington track ball, and a third just wants the 'eject' button on
the keyboard to eject the DVD in his machine.
You have to manually set up each Avocent box to have one and only one
special USB device. And you can only do this through a terminal
connection.
So, if editor one and two want to switch rooms and bring their wacom/
track ball with them - someone needs to bust out some command line
editing on the Avocent receiver in order to delete the prior USB
device and add the new one. (and each wacom model has a slightly
different signature - so unless you have all the same in one office,
you get to do this workaround for each of them)

Other than this (somewhat large) pain - the extenders work great with
dual DVI and do NOT suddenly stop working like the Gefens used to. I
love the picture quality, but hate how much re-programming I have to
do of them.

Hope this helps,
Jeff
