Subject: [Avid-L2] Re: AMA relink conundrum
One does not have to add tape names. If you don't the Avid should relink
properly to the AMA volumes. However, the addition of tape names is fairly
critical for archival purposes. Without them it can be hard to pull the
material back at a later date and be confident of what material you need.
That becomes especially important if you want just a single shot or a short
segment and do not want to bring the whole project back from the dead.
Terry is right that the addition of tape names later in the process can
break the link to the originals. The key there is that, whenever you do it,
you do it to both transcoded and original files.
Roger is correct that the XDCam disk label is not useful in the AMA process
unless one manually enters it in the ingest process. Again, it would be
lovely for that to be an automatable procedure within the Avid.
Most of this does not apply to projects that are purely AMA.
