The DS is very forgiving when it comes to media, as it really only
cares about two things: source name and timecode. So any way you can
correctly bring in the tc and source (which in case of RED is the file
name) will work fine.

So if you'd choose to go into MC via REDrushes you would generate an
ALE file at the same time, and import to MC using that. From there you
can use AAF or AFE direct over to DS, and relink to the original
files. 95% functional Avid "total conform" (sic) with native RED files.

I believe the current documentation is an "updated" version of a paper
originating from when DS could not do RED natively, and you had to
link back into Redcine to make dpx files. Someone has updated the pdf
in relation to native RED support in DS, and probably not realized
other parts needed rewriting also. The XML and Filmscribe stuff is
irrelevant for DS finishing, and a properly formatted ALE file
bypasses the requisite for using MetaFuze to convert the media.
MetaFuze just helps you getting mxf files into your MC directly,
instead of going through imports.

Don't get me started. Opportunities wasted galore.
