Few things:

Bluray is not full level afaik, don't know the encoder, but are you sure you should not feed it 709, or at least tell it the source is 709?

a .2 gamma difference does not show "much brighter"  imho. It will look 'slightly different'. 

It should be easy to spot. Blown out highlights will indicate RGB wasn't the correct option.
Or, it will indicate that you should have brought the source back to 709 on the import in Avid.

Did you watch scopes in Avid? On the blurry?

I have a DPX sequence for a feature that was graded in Baselight in a room in which the Dolby monitor was set to a 2.4 gamma. I took that same DPX sequence, opened it in Media Composer via AMA, did the mixdown to ProRes422, exported Same as Source at Full Levels, then imported that into Encore as the asset to be used in authoring and burning a Blu ray. However…

The resulting Blu ray is much brighter than it should be. It bears not a lot of resemblance to the DCP we screened or to the look in the grading suite. It looks more like it's showing us a 2.2 gamma (and this is on a quality Samsung plasma on Standard color).

So I ask, what are we missing in terms of the 2.4 gamma relationship to this workflow? Because for the life of me, I can't get something on BRD (or in a QT, for that matter) that looks like either the grading suite or the DCP. How — how — do we get it to have the same relative gamma in our BRDs and QTs?

Anyone have the right formula for QT ProRes 422 exports out of avid. Lately clients have been asking for masters as ProRes and I jump between Avid settings being Legal or expanded color full range. Legal seems a bit washed out and full range seems a bit dark. In QT settings I go between gamma correction automated and none. Its a lengthy process exporting each setting and never seems to be the right match. Never for broadcast. Usually going to server or once in a while to DVD.

What is the right combo of settings to go to Pro Res?
