AFAIK, Resolve links to UMID's. Unique Media IDentifiers.
A series of chars/digits guaranteed to be unique in the world. (eg, location info / time info / cam serial number, no way two cams with the same serial number shoot at the same place at the exact same time.)
This is why you have to tell Resolve where the media of your project is. It creates a database of all the UMID's, and cross matches that with the AAF.
So (I never tested), you should be able to rename whatever you like, it would not make a difference.
Most pro cams write an UMID, so do most sound recorders. (And if not, you can promote those files to BWF using my BWF toolbox, that will add a UMID besides other metadata)
Now, this is probably a problem with 'bare' AE renders from old versions and clips from cheap cams.
You can have two problems:
1) there is a UMID, and you overwrite the source with an exact same length / name fresh render (cause you found a typo in the credits), it might NOT link as there is a new UMID.
2) there is NO UMID, so Resolve must fall back to older methods, and those 'might' fail.
Thinking of it, I can add XMP metadata to close all material, and XMP is capable of writing an UMID.
So, if anyone has these kind of linking trouble, contact me and I cook something.
