They might be mix downs that were removed from sequence and the master clips deleted from the bins. Making the media orphaned.
I would make a work bin, possibly in a new project, and drag the database files into it and then delete from there.
Or, depending on how you have managed your media, if you had renders and mix downs all going to one volume that was separate from your production media and SndFx, MX, etc. Then you can coral the clips you want to keep into a bin and AAF export with media copy to a separate folder so you have the MXF media you want to keep. Then whole sale delete everything off of the render/mixdown volume and then put that exported media back in there. But I would only do that in a rare occurrence.

Renders are trickier and I often set the bin display to show render clips/files and then delete the clip and the media. This gets rid of the render media where as using clear renders in to out etc... leaves those render files stranded and still taking up space. HTH
