Dave,
thanks for the info!
MC 7 looks good.

This is the first major step to overhauling the player engine, once that's done we can begin improving instances of some of the way this functionality worked in the past. What we have not been saying is that we've begun overhauling everything in Media Composer for a few years now and users will start seeing improvements for performance as the overhaul gets rolled out. This started with 64 bit, the UI and open I/O. The Video engine in Pro Tools is the next step. There is a lot of under the hood investment going on for performance. The audio waveform improvements in MC 7 is another example.

not read that, unfortunately. It uses file creation date/time.
Many people use QT Change, a very inexpensive utility to embed the correct
TC prior to ingest.

Re: [Avid-L2] diff version of MC see Canon "timecode" differently
I meant to add this (℅ John Pale) from Creative Cow post that helps frame the issue...
You might want to look at getting QTChange from VideoToolshed to add time of day timecode to the movie files from the Canon THM files. Avid appears to derive timecode on 5D footage from the file creation time/date, which is different and can be a problem under certain conditions.

[Avid-L2] diff version of MC see Canon "timecode" differently
I'm working with a Canon directory (DCIM) and different version of MC are delivering different TC values when linking via AMA
MC6 = all clips start at 00
MC5 start at 08 with start times ascending (good) but values for clips overlap (bad)
for laughs I tried FCP 7 and got 13 hour values.
An Avid MC5.5 off-site also delivers 00 TC values when linking via AMA.
What am I to believe? Tips and guidance very welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Re: [Avid-L2] No BCC in MC 6.5 upgrade
Okay. Avid FX needed to be manually opened with Stuffit Expander rather than the default utility it was going too. Sorenson just downloaded correctly after a few more tries. All very weird and time consuming but got going.

I ran into the cpgz issue once. It was a corrupt zip file in that case. I'd try downloading them again. If you've got any anti-virus software running it might help to temporarily disable it too.

[Avid-L2] Media Composer on a Mac Mini
I know that the Mini is on the qualified list, does anyone have experience, reviews or warnings about running MC 6.5 on one?
Thanks

Re: [Avid-L2] No BCC in MC 6.5 upgrade
BCC stopped being included with MC since version 6.0. Only Symphony and
Symphony upgrades will include it.

[Avid-L2] No BCC in MC 6.5 upgrade
I just bought the upgrade to 6.5 for my laptop (currently MC 5) and notice there is no BCC in the upgrade. I thought BCC 8 came with 6.5?

Obviously Resolve has solid creds, so this is more of an impression on my part, based on the on-screen results I've seen. Resolve 10 should be quite nice. Not only some introductory editing tools (aimed at conforming and tweaks there), but also Open FX, so you can use plug-ins like Sapphire.
