[Avid-L2] Mac CPU Usage as Render Guage?

I generally render a safe color limit over my sequence.  For Export reasons in 4K projects I render to ProResHQ to facilitate exporting a QT Ref that will be ProResHQ when QT 7 does a save as.

I've notice that if I do a foreground render of the safe color track I see Avid MC using around 1,000% CPU (approx 10 cores).  If I do a background render of the same track it also show around 1,000% CPU for the TranscodeServiceWorker (which is the background service render).

If I run a background render then start a foreground render I see Avid MC at 1,000 CPU usage and the TranscodeServiceWorker at 700% to 800%.  To me this would indicate I'm almost doubling my render processing which I would think will make the render go substantially quicker.  That's what seems to be happening.

I know sometimes there are processes that take up to 20,000% CPU so it wouldn't work with something like that but in this both stand alone render modes only use 1,000% CPU.  Does my logic make sense or am I missing something in computer voodoo I don't understand?
