The Nitris DX works fine with the Trashcan for many purposes. Avid sell a small Sonnet adaptor specifically for this purpose, but the large Echo Express boxes work too.
There's limited support for 10-bit media and very little for stereoscopic work, but the majority of people aren't affected by that. The remaining isues aren't going to be fixed, obviously, since the hardware is no longer on sale.

I think the Nitris DX does not work with the Trashcan, regardless of whose PCIe chassis you use. It is an issue with the Nitris DX that will not (cannot?) be fixed.
