I heard from an AE friend that they put in a new Air Conditioner in the machine room where he's working because they were told by all the engineers their Sans were running way hot and problems would arise from the high temps. Now after a month or so they got the AC bill or power bill for the AC and it's so high they decided to shut off the AC at night. Well doesn't a san run just as hot at night as during the day, or at least pretty close depending on the temperature outside? Am I wrong to think this makes no sense. Of course I'm not paying the AC bill but if you spend the money to install the AC unit I'd think it should be on round the clock. Oh well when a san dies ad a seasons worth of media is lost the AC bill might not seem so high. I've heard many engineers talk about the newer sans like isis generating a lot less heat and thereby there is a substantial savings in AC and electricity to power the San. This makes me less skeptical of some of those suggestions I've heard over the past few years.
