Thanks for all your ideas. I have also tried encoding with Flip 4 Mac and MPEG Streamclip, but the results are the same. In fact, I read that Flip For Mac is the only software licensed to run WMVs on a Mac -- so perhaps Sorensen and other Mac software are actually using Flip 4 Mac on WMVs? A Google search tells me that out of sync audio is common with WMVs played back on a Mac.
And to be clear, the out of sync audio is only evident when playing the file on a Mac. The same file played in Windows has perfect sync. I feel compelled to verify sync before sending files to the client, so it's a pain of an extra step to move it to Windows each time. I'll try the idea of installing Sorensen or Microsoft Expression Encoder on a Mac running Parallels.
