I don't disagree:
But I followed my above statement with this - "Granted, the graphics
are tailored for 4x3 viewing, but I'm personally not bothered by the
text placement in 16x9. Maybe I'm used to it, but it looks fine to me."
If 4x3-safe graphics are done right, they can look pretty good in
both 4x3 and 16x9. It is possible to use graphic elements behind 4x3
text that run off the screen left and/or right to fill up some of the
16x9 space. This way, no important text is lost within the 4x3 image
and you still provide a level of graphic interest in the 16x9 image.
It is a compromise, but a good one if done well.
