What OS are you currently running? A new Mac would come with Lion but if your MBP is on Lion now is there a reason you couldn't use Carbon Copy Cloner to Clone your current drive and then put that on your new computer? As I think about this there are probably some firmware issues and driver versions that could cause issues. I'd be interested to hear what others think about the CCC approach. I know a clean install is usually preferred but with all the little widgets that get added to my laptop over time it's hard to see it all surviving a clean install from the ground up. Perhaps launching in target mode would be the thing to try although I know Avid usually doesn't survive that but a reinstall of Avid isn't that big a deal especially on a Mac. Is there any chance you could get the new one before giving back the old one? The Adobe and Avid would have to be deactivated, but your Avid is a dongle so that shouldn't be a problem. Can't the Genius' at the Apple Store tell you the best way to move forward? (only half jesting about the Genius')

I want to do my iTunes stuff, obviously, but do I have to de-authorize the Adobe software, for example? What do I want to make sure I do other than making sure all of my files are backed up? What kind of stuff CAN'T you simply reinstall on a new machine?
