I've got a head scratching workflow question.
Footage is coming in via AMA - all shot @ 23.98 HD.
After rough cutting (DNxHD 36) at 23.98 - I now need to output at 29.97 SD master.
I relink AMA - and now have full resolution in the Avid.
Hardware is Nitros DX.
I had thought that I'd use the 'downconvert' video output and insert edit to digibeta - however MC complains that it can't control a 29.97 deck in a 23.98 project.
So I've now started a 29.97 project and opened the sequences in there.
Before it will output it needs to transcode. I have it do that at 1:1... then output.
This is tape 1.
I now output a D5 at 23.98, (from full res AMA files) then play it back and record a Digibeta from it.
This Digibeta is tape 2.
Tape 2's visually quality is a lot higher than Tape 1.
However, Tape 2 - has timecode issues where I can't get the pieces to start/end on the frames they need to.
What is the recommended workflow for dealing with something like this (changing TC rate from 23.98 to 29.97DF, as well as HD to SD)?
I'm not happy with the Avid's transcoding/down-converting quality - but I can't seem to wrap my head around how to get my D5 tape set up properly for a tape to tape down convert.
Thanks for any pointers.
