[Avid-L2] Re: Media Composer 5 announced

One important part of the RTAS plug in is that they are "Track Based" right now not clip based. So if you have all your dialogue on A1 you can't apply different audio effects to different interview subjects or bites. I was told that may change down the line but that is a big hindrance in my mind. I don't run Pro-Tools but I don't think they have this limitation. The limitation would mean you'd have to put different SOTs on different tracks to apply different audio plug ins and adjustments which to me is normal operating procedure. I really hope this will be sorted out before release.

Icons work like PT, so there's a solo and mute, but also a "power" icon. That evidently locks the audio attributes of a track when "off", so you don't accidentally change something after you are happy with it.

When I asked how much of this you can gang together, I was told "no problem - that doesn't have much impact on the CPU". Of course, then when I hypothetically suggested 24 tracks, each with all 5 plug-ins, the answer was that would probably have more of an impact.

There is also a clip linking function like in FCP. With it on, the audio and video to a clip stay locked together so you don't accidentally move them out of sync with each other, when doing in-timeline editing.
