My current 4K project needs to look like a 70's concert film. We have decided on the DFT grain effect, I know there are all kinds of effects reels with grain that can be blended in but the plugin looks good to the creative folks and renders quick. I have viewed the grain on my PVM-2541 where it's hard to tell and also on my LG OLED 55 inch where the grain is much more pronounced than other monitor. I have everything off that would enhance the image making grain stand out more on the LG. We have also viewed on a 55 inch Sony LED monitor where the grain was much less pronounced and finally we viewed on a Christy Projector in a big theater environment.
The DFT grain is formerly the Tiffen plugin. Tiffen dropped it and DFT picked it up.
We had a screening in New York and they felt the grain was too much. This is all very subjective but I feel like in New York they probably viewed on something similar to my LG OLED. I'm trying to find out what they used for their screening.
Generically does anyone have any suggestions/experience on why I seem to see such a difference in the prominence of the grain effect on the different monitors? I get that the Christy Projector seemed a little softer than the OLED monitor but why would the Sony LED not display grain similar to the LG OLED?
