I've finally joined the Creative Cloud at home and I'm running the oldest Adobe Media Encoder I can. V12.1.2. I'm usually using a 4K 4096_2160 ProResHQ self contained hour long .mov as a source and making an HD ProResHQ 1920_1080 Letter box with and without Time Code burn and at the same time an H_264 same dimensions also with and without time code. When I start the process Activity monitor shows almost 2000% CPU. It seems to stay at that level for at least 20 minutes or more but somewhere along the process it drops down to around 800% CPU usage. This is long before the files are done. The whole process usually take around 2 hours and 10 minutes ish. I've never watched long enough to determine when the cpu processing drops but it happens every time.
I recently had the MacPro upgraded to 12 core 3.46 GHz and I have a thermal monitor utility and the two displayed temps are in the 52C and 56C ranges with 1160 RPM on the fans. The upgrade was done by a very competent person so I assume all the heat sinks etc... are correct.
Anybody more familiar with Adobe Media Encoder see this kind of behavior? It's just strange that it slows down with over an hour still left to process. I'm usually playing back from an external USB 3 Graid and recording onto my internal 4 drive stripe that has plenty of room.
