Today I just did the multiple PRAM zap as suggested and I just restarted with the nvidia driver sticking according to sys prefs.
Last week when I switched from the Radeon 5770 GPU and put the GTX-680 in I noticed in sys prefs the CUDA driver was there and I updated it. At that time I had not downloaded the nvidia webdriver but CUDA driver was there.
I don't know if there is any CUDA architecture on the 5770, I thought it was only a nvidia thing but I'm no GPU expert.
I'll keep googling to see what I can find but I just thought since I saw my work computer had CUDA already it was a separate thing from the web driver. It sure seems like they would be tied at the hip somehow but I don't really know.

While I haven't tested otherwise, it's my understanding that the nVidia web driver is necessary in order to run the Cuda driver.
Correct me if I'm wrong - it would help me if I could run Cuda without the nVidia web driver!
