You don't need the Nvidia web driver to run CUDA. You can run CUDA with the MacOS driver, however you can only run a build of CUDA compatible with your MacOS driver, which may not be the same version that runs with the web driver. The CUDA control panel will alert you as to the most current version available for your driver, regardless. So it's unlikely you can run an incorrect version unless you are switching back and forth between the web driver and MacOS driver.
CUDA only works with Nvidia cards. Open CL and Metal are your only options for AMD.
CUDA is a separate install. Its not installed automatically with the Nvidia driver.
Glad the multiple PRAM reset worked.
Today I just did the multiple PRAM zap as suggested and I just restarted with the nvidia driver sticking according to sys prefs.Last week when I switched from the Radeon 5770 GPU and put the GTX-680 in I noticed in sys prefs the CUDA driver was there and I updated it. At that time I had not downloaded the nvidia webdriver but CUDA driver was there.I don't know if there is any CUDA architecture on the 5770, I thought it was only a nvidia thing but I'm no GPU expert.I'll keep googling to see what I can find but I just thought since I saw my work computer had CUDA already it was a separate thing from the web driver. It sure seems like they would be tied at the hip somehow but I don't really know.

Correct me if I'm wrong - it would help me if I could run Cuda without the nVidia web driver!
