Here's what I found, which gave me cold feet about 2018.12.1 even though I was eager to go for a current-ish version:

Both options were previously working without issues. I have downgraded to 2018.11 and it is now working fine again."
Having researched the other versions, they pretty much all have quirks and bugs and trade-offs from 2018.6 onward. So I went to 2018.5 -especially as Job ter Burg recommended it- and so far so good.
Now hoping that Avid will go for a 2018.12.2 more than a 2019.2. New features are one thing, stable and reliable is more important.

To answer your questions, yep we're running it on Mac. We have 3 iMacs running El capitan and connected to an Avid Nexis shared storage. So far so good. I'll keep a close eye on the next version of MC and will consider it if it has good feedback and less bugs...
