[Avid-L2] Avid New Improved DPX exporting?

Avid MC 2018.12.1 Mac OS 10.12.6 Mid 2010 MacPro Radion 5770 GPU 1024MB 24GB Ram.

I'm testing the new improved DPX export.  Timeline is 4096_2160 DNxHRHQX rendered to ProResHQ Safe Color Limit.  Sequence is completely rendered.  Typically the export of an hour show would take approx 9 hours.  New version is estimating 3.5 hours.  I did a two minute test that started as a 6 minute estimate but then crept up to 10.5 minutes along the way.  Regardless the 3.5 estimate would be over 50% faster, which jives with what I've heard.

Watching CPU activity it bounces from around 500% to 1,400 percent usually hovering arpimd 600%.  The jumps are often and random.  Given my sequence is completely rendered in a organized manner with the safe color effects rendered in sequence in one minute ish chunks, why is the CPU percentage bouncing around so much?  Source media is coming from fibre attached 16TB array and export is to internal 3 strip raid of 4TB drives with over 2 TB available on the volume.  I would think disk read and write access could slow things down but the jumps are so volatile I'm just curious if that's just typical of DPX processing.  With everything prerendered to ProResHQ I would think the CPU processing demand would be pretty consistent but that's not what I'm seeing.  Is there something in DPX creation that is like a VBR codec so processing time could be effected by image content?

I don't think anything is broken, I'm just trying to understand better what might be going on under the hood.
