A lot of hysteria on the web about this right now...
Here's a more considered take on it:
TLDR: QuickTime is dead, Mac apps will have to use their own code to play older non-Apple-native codecs like DNx in future. Life will go on.
(It seems that Avid haven't fully weaned themselves off QuickTime yet, but they should have by the time these Mac OS updates come into play, whenever that may be:
