[Avid-L2] Re: [Editing-List] Legacy Avid AMA SonyXDCam Plugins from Nablet or elsewhere for Mac OS 10.9.5?

 

Yes things move forward but in this particular case Avid approves Mac OS 10.9.5 for Avid 8.6.4 but now that Nablet is in charge of Sony's ama plugins they require Mac OS 10.10 to install.  Fortunately for the XDCam plugin the legacy ama plugin available at Sony Creative is good up to Avid 10.6.  The same appears not to be true for the Sony Creative legacy ama plugins for Sony Raw and Sony HDCAM-SR.  I haven't had a reason to use those formats so not a pressing issue for me right now but it could burn someone.

Yes such is life but it's worth noting that if you use Sony ama Raw or HDCAM-SR you will hit a roadblock with Mac OS 10.9.5.  It would be nice if Sony would have made the legacy ama plugins compatible with Avid 10.6 like they did with XDCam or if Nablet would let me install on 10.9.5 at my own risk that might work too.

OK so the major story here is: cameras update, plugins update, operating systems update. You can not expect to stay compatible with all of these without updating.

If you can't update, why not just install the previous version? It will either work or not work, and you'll find out by trying. If it don't work, then you just have to update, or find another system to link/transcode.

When I upgraded from 8.5.3 to 8.6.4 the Red ama plugin was incompatible and the Sony XDCam ama plugin was also flagged as incompatible on Avid startup. 

I went to the avid ama plugin page and to Nablet Sony but when trying to install the latest V4.5.1 version it will not install because I'm not on Mac OS 10.10.X.  I get it but what do I do to run Sony XDCam ama plugin for 8.6.4 when I can't upgrade the mac os for infrastructure reasons. 

According to the Nablet page 10.10 is required for all the ama plugins.  Am I misreading this or missing a link to legacy OS compatible ama plugins?

This seems to work or at least install without errors so I guess I'm good.  I don't have any media to check it with right now but was getting the Avid prompt about incompatible ama plugins.  So I guess this means running any mac os prior to OS 10.10 will negate any future nablet ama plugins.  I know time and OS systems march on but with legacy infrastructure this is just too much fun.  I guess I'll just have to go "One OS at a time" or was that "One Day at a time?"
