Re: [Avid-L2] Slog3 and Symphony

I completely agree with the overall feeling that Log isn't as good as shooting it correctly for the intended delivery format and all the confusion that results from never getting the right info as to how it was shot etc... it just isn't worth it in the majority of my world.  I am consistently amazed at how the production community just jumped on this without considering the impact on the rest of the workflow.

As I recently learned apparently shooting color negative film was also much more forgiving and allowed a great "latitude" for improperly exposed material to be fixed later.  I had known that reversal film was unforgiving and I believe that is why many of the cameramen I worked with early on were so great.  They had grown up shooting New reversal film so when they transitioned to Video Cameras like the Iki HL-79 they maintained the same discipline that had grown up with and their work was impeccable.

I've heard it both ways John. Pick the one you want to go with. Either way, you sacrifice data from some part of the picture to apply somewhere else. If you shoot it right in the first place, you don't sacrifice as much detail that may need to be brought out later.
