Have you tried viewing the footage using Sony's Catalyst Browse Software?



Free download.  This may help answer your questions about the file folder structure.

I've been given footage shot on an FS5. 
The drive has folders: private > XDROOT > and so on, so it looks like the structure is good. The source browser doesn't see this as a good Media Volume, though. I can disbale media volume, and it sees the MXF files.  AVC Long-GOP; some 1080 and some 3840. It looks like the shooter switched back and forth during the shoot.
Should I be able to see this as a media volume?
