"AMA" isn't one thing. It depends a LOT on the nature of the material you are linking to. If the source material is all I-frame in a native codec, it's absolutely as smooth as native media. If you are working with long-GOP media, it will be sluggish as there is so much work to do to draw a single frame. Depending on the source, sometimes very sluggish. Some formats are meant primarily for streaming, and perform so badly at random access (AVCHD) that there is no audio waveform display. Media Composer won't even try.
