That's what we do for scratch VOs most of the time - except where we still have older avid hardware that has multiple inputs - USB mic directly into the computer, record using (in our case) QT pro (though you could use any computer audio recording program) then drag-and drop into media composer. Faster than click, patch, click, click, mute, click, unmute, etc. Not good for reading pix, of course, or ADR, or that sort of thing, but we have protools for that stuff anyway.

There's even a 'preamp' for $20-30 that plugs into any mic with an XLR and has USB on the other end.
