Re: [Avid-L2] Best Nvidia graphics Card for Mac Tower - Help

GTX680/K5000 is the most powerful in terms of native support.
However this is 3 generations behind the current NVidia GPUs (7xx, 9xx and 10xx) and supply is very low if any.

You can get up to the 9xx series but would require a hardware modification (EFI mod). Without it, you would lose the gray boot screen.
http://www.macvidcards.com/  can do the mod for you if you like.

If you can live without having the gray boot screen, then any modern Nvidia card will work assuming you have the proper power configuration (see FAQs at  http://www.macvidcards.com/)

The boot screen should only be necessary if you are troubleshooting certain hardware problems. Keep your older EFI based Nvidia or ATI card handy just in case.

I've got a VFX editor working on a Mac Tower that currently has an inadequate video card, especially as he's doing a lot of work on Smoke (aka Smack). Can anyone suggest the specific card that I should try to acquire, something beefy, something with the right coding for After Effects and Smoke?

Thanks!
