[Avid-L2] Re: HDR workflow

Couple more notes. One of the things about High Dynamic Range is that it doesn't just affect luminance. You gain a lot more chroma in the increased dynamic range. One of the shots in the Baselight demo was of a woman in front of a painting with red flowers. They REALLY popped. So the demo artist used secondaries to pull them down. But you could see in the SDR version, the flowers were now too muted. One more reason I believe we are going to be doing separate color passes for HDR and SDR.

Also there are two main standards in play right now, the one Dolby is using need tight control of the all parts of the pipeline and careful solar correction so it really needs post production. So what about live TV within our current pipeline? You know, like they way we added color to B&W to get NTSC. Well, that's the second standard being pushed by the BBC.
