Got a request to hack the format, as it isn't playable on Windows.
(If you're on Mac, you're supposed to buy compressor. Don't do it, there is
a (not even illegal) hack to get it working, just copy one file from a to b,
google it...)
No problems in Avid though, Avid can AMA in the clips just fine.
But Quicktime (and thus, all apps that rely on QT, like AE, can't)
The hack itself is simple, just flag the file to be plain Prores 4444.
That's changing just one (1) byte
(If you're interested, change the FourCC from ap4x into ap4h.)
Sadly, those files get HUGE, (over 8 gig for a lousy 21 seconds, 4k BM clip)
and that is a bit of a problem in my coding environment.
(I could do it with a file copy without a problem, but not destructive on
originals for now...)
While testing, i've also found uot that Alexa 4444 XQ files contain a
gazillion amount of zeroes.
(Meaning, a smart copy to a new file is a 20 to 30% disk space saving, that
counts...)
Not so much for BM cam generated files though.... (Otherwise it was a
no-brainer.)
But now my question, before i commit myself to a tedious task, who on earth
is using these insanely large files on Windows?
(Except for the weirdo wedding photographer and of course the porn industry,
i'm talking about people who would give me a couple of bucks to get this
working...)
thx,
Bouke
