I learned about the relatively new H.264 resolutions that became available in Avid Ver. 7.3.1 ish. They have a smaller footprint than 10:1 and look better. I'm told this works fine in 9 stream multi groups. I figure given it's H.264 it must be pretty CPU dependent for proper playback. We are looking at getting some new iMac 27 inch models. Would those have enough CPU power to play a 9 stream H.264 multigroup without hiccups? Is it reasonable to assume older mac pro towers would have the gusto to do this. I'm assuming a mac pro tower would have to at least be 3.1 to support 64 bit Avid. The bandwidth and storage size is appealing here but will playback stutter as a result?
