8.3.1 goes live @ 12:00 noon ET
We are pleased to announce the release of the latest version of Media Composer software. This latest update – available March 16th, 2015 @ 12:00 noon ET - adds exciting new functionality to enhance and accelerate High Res workflows, including:
- QuickTime Export for DNxHR: Perform Fast Imports and Exports in Media Composer 8.3.1 using resolution independent DNxHR media wrapped as Quicktime and exchange files with a wide variety of applications·
- DNxHR OP1A MXF Export: Prefer a more open and standardized format? MC 8.3.1 now has the added convenience to export DNxHR MXF OP1a media in a single interleaved file, with up to 16 channels of audio and ancillary data.·
- GPU Support onMac for AMD and NVIDIA Cards: Effects acceleration by GPU is now available on the Mac platform, including the latest Mac Pro.·
- XAVC-I UHD and 4K Writeback: You can now create XAVC-I UHD and 4K masters directly from Media Composer.·
- Support for ProTools Duet and Quartet: Capture your audio using best in class Duet and Quartet devices connected to Media Composer 8.3.1.·
- Improved XAVC-I UHD and 4K Performance: General performance improvements of the 4K experience as well as faster decode of XAVC-I media.·
- Media Creation Default Changes: The AMA Source/Scaling Quality option in the Media Creation Mixdown & Transcode Setting now defaults to Full Quality instead of Half Quality.

How to obtain the Media Composer March 2015 update: The latest update to Media Composer is available worldwide as of March 16th, 2015.
- Customers who have already installed the latest version of Media Composer will be notified of the availability of the upgrade via the Application Manager. The Apps tab will also provide a link to download and install the update when desired.
- New customers who purchase Media Composer or a Standard Avid Support/Upgrade for Media Composer, Symphony™, or NewsCutter, will receive this update in their Master Avid Account.
- Customers on current Support contracts can download the Media Composer update either from their Master Avid Account or the Avid Download Center (login and password required.)
- Customers not on a current Support contract can purchase an Upgrade & Support Plan for $499 USD to receive the latest software update (available until March 31st, 2015when the price will increase to $699, available until May 15th, 2015.)
